Cooking Class Recipe - Cheesy Potato and Cauliflower Bake

Here is a very exciting recipe from last week’s cooking class because the potatoes used were the first to be used from the allotment! Here is the recipe for a delicious Cheesy Potato and Cauliflower Bake.


2 large potatoes/sweet potatoes - £0.50

Olive oil/vegetable oil - £0.10

50g butter/margarine - £0.50

50g flour - £0.03

1 pint milk - £0.49

225g cheddar cheese - £1.15

1 small cauliflower - £0.70

3 tablespoon fresh chives (optional) - £0.05

3 spring onions - £0.15

4 slices bacon (optional) - £0.40

How to make:

1. Turn the oven on to 200°C (Gas Mark 6)

2. Cut potatoes into biggish chunks (peel if using sweet potatoes)

3. Toss in a little olive oil and roast in the preheated oven until cooked, about 40 minutes

4. Put the butter, flour and milk into a small pan and whisk over a gentle heat until thickened, about 5

minutes. Season and stir in 50g cheese and the chives

5. Cut the cauliflower into florets and cook until just beginning to go soft.

6. Grill the bacon if using and slice into little bits

7. Chop the spring onions

8. Place all the ingredients in an ovenproof dish and top with the sauce

9. Sprinkle on remaining cheese and bake for about 30 minutes
