The New Training Initiative

In January 2006 we launched our PAT testing service and training initiative, which provides young people who have been homeless with an opportunity to gain work based skills, training and paid work experience.

Initially trainees apply to attend a 3-month unpaid training placement. If we are satisfied with their progress they are offered a 6-month paid post.  At the end of the programme, they will have gained 9 months full time experience, a record of their work & attendance, SELECT approved training in PAT testing and support to access further employment.

The PAT testing service is run as a not-for-profit business; the commercial work we undertake part-funds the service and trainees’ wages.  PAT testing is only carried out by experienced and competent personnel who have completed City & Guilds or SELECT approved exams.

if you would like further information on our work contact Susan Johnston at susan@freshstartweb.org.uk or call 0131 476 7741.
