Your Shoes were made for Walking

Your Shoes were made for Walking

Friday 26th May is the date of the annual Fresh Start Sponsored Walk 2017.  This walk began in 2008 to give our supporters an opportunity to raise funds for us.  Our supporters cover a broad range of ages and abilities, and the Walk enables people of all levels of fitness to take part.

It is an 8-mile scenic walk taking two to three hours at a leisurely pace, and finishes at our Food Station at Harrison Park, where walkers are served a lunch and refreshments.

Duncan Campbell, our Technical Training Officer, has been with Fresh Start since 2005, and 2017 will see him take part in his 10th Sponsored Walk.  He says ‘This is a fun event, that’s easy going and a chance to meet and speak to different people.  The route is through some nice parts of Edinburgh you don’t see every day’.

Everybody is welcome – whatever level of fitness.  Some people come along on their own, and see it as an opportunity to meet people.  Others come with a friend or in a team.  Most of our staff take part and always ensure no one is on their own, and no one gets lost!

The route takes one of the most scenic in the city, following the footpath along the Water of Leith from Stockbridge to Colinton Dell, leaving the towpath at Harrison Park.  A refreshment stop usually takes place at the Water of Leith Visitor Centre.  If the 8 miles is too long for anybody, there is an opportunity to cut a bit out.

Anyone reading this who has not taken part before is very welcome to come along – all you need is a pair of shoes.  And if you have taken part before – please join us again.  You can contact for a sponsor pack or more information.
