Cooking Class Recipe - Lasagne


Last week at the young mums group in Craigmillar, cooking class participants learnt how to make lasagne from scratch.


 

Ingredients:


100g mince - £0.50


1 small onion (chopped) - £0.10


1 clove of garlic (chopped) - £0.05


1 small tin tomatoes (200g) - £0.17 (for half a tin)


1 teaspoon tomato puree - £0.03


salt and pepper - £0.01


pinch of mixed herbs £0.02


¼ pint stock or water - £0.02


4 sheets of easy cook lasagne - £0.13


 

For the sauce:


½ pint milk - £0.13


1 tablespoon flour - £0.02


25g fat spread/butter - £0.25


100g cheddar cheese - £0.56


salt and pepper - £0.01


 

Total Cost: £2.00


 

How to make:


1. Brown the mince in a medium saucepan. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, tomato puree, seasoning, herbs and water.


Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes.


2. Place the milk, flour and margarine in a saucepan and whisk over a low

heat until smooth. Bring to the boil stirring constantly and cook for 2 minutes.


3. Add most of the grated cheese and season to taste.

4. Spread about ¼ of the meat sauce over the base of a dish add a little

cheese sauce then a sheet of pasta. Repeat the process finishing with a


layer of pasta and cheese sauce. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and bake at 180oC for approx. 30 minutes.
