Real people; Greg's story

A microwave meal, night after night is not very nutritious, let alone a bit boring.

Our Cookers for Christmas Appeal helped 18-year-old Greg last year. Greg had been living on microwave meals when he first moved into his new home after a period of homelessness.

Before getting his new home Greg was unemployed and living in a hostel. He was referred to Fresh Start and signed up as one of our voluntary PAT testers, a scheme run through our Training Initiative.

Whilst volunteering, the council offered Greg a tenancy. At Fresh Start, we were delighted to be able to help him decorate his house through our Hit Squad service. We were also able to offer him a cooker thanks to our Cookers for Christmas Appeal.

Greg was delighted to receive the cooker and is now cooking healthy meals.

He said: “Without my cooker I’d still be living on microwave meals. After eight months they become very boring. I feel healthier now I am cooking fresh food.”

Greg has now found himself a job and spends his spare time volunteering at Fresh Start.

Help someone like Greg this Christmas Eve by donating towards our #CookersforChristmas appeal. http://www.justgiving.com/Fresh-Start-Cookers-for-Christmas-2013
