Food Station opens its doors as Fresh Start expands

We’re delighted to announce a new and exciting arm to the charity’s services, which has opened with a new office and its own warehouse.

The Food Station, which is based in the Phoenix Club at Harrison Place, near Slateford Road, will deliver a whole range of new or upgraded services to allow us to help clients cook hot meals and improve their diets.

It will also allow us to develop our opportunities for training opportunities for people who have been homeless and expand our overall support package for previously homeless households in Edinburgh.

·         There will be a new Electrical Workshop which will test donated cookers which will then be donated to clients. Fresh Start has delivered cookers to clients in the past through its annual Cookers for Christmas appeal but this will allow us to manage a sustainable programme of supply.

·         There will be a new Food Pack service, brought to life through our teams of dedicated volunteers. They will be packing essential items to be donated to tenants to ensure they have food to eat when they move into their new home.

 ·         We will be running Cooking Classes to help people develop the skills needed to prepare meals on a low income. Our new allotment will provide food for the classes, as well as opportunities for clients and volunteers to take part in positive social activity.

Our next newsletter, due outs soon, will have an update on all the services. Or follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with developments.
